Thunder Even Series with Spurs Behind SGA's 30, Injuries Loom

The Oklahoma City Thunder secured a 122-113 victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 2, leveling the series. However, the game was not without concern for the Thunder, as Jalen Williams exited early due to a left hamstring issue, adding uncertainty as the series shifts to San Antonio.

SGA Carries Thunder Past Spurs, But Costly Absences Loom

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered another masterclass performance, dropping 30 points and nine assists while hitting the game’s defining shot—a mid-range dagger over Stephon Castle in the fourth quarter. The Thunder’s ball movement was a key factor, with the team dishing out 34 assists and shooting 48% from the field.

With Williams sidelined after just 7:18 minutes due to hamstring tightness—his fourth such injury in five months—the Thunder leaned on their depth. Alex Caruso provided a spark off the bench with 17 points, while Cason Wallace and Ajay Mitchell combined for 16 points to help fill the void. Coach Mark Daigneault praised the team’s adaptability but acknowledged that the injury “adds a layer of complexity” as the series heads to San Antonio.

Spurs’ Playoffs Nightmare Deepens

San Antonio faced challenges as injuries struck again. De’Aaron Fox, already sidelined with a recurring right ankle injury, was replaced by rookie Dylan Harper, who himself suffered a right leg injury after awkward falls in the third quarter. Harper, who turned 20 in March, had been a standout in the playoffs, but his absence left the Spurs scrambling.

Victor Wembanyama (21 points, 17 rebounds) and Stephon Castle (25 points) carried the offensive load, but the Spurs’ struggles were evident. Their bench scored just 29 points, and the team shot 40% from three—a stark contrast to their earlier performance. Coach Mitch Johnson expressed disappointment, noting that both Fox and Harper would be unavailable for the remainder of the series.

What’s Next?

With the series tied, the Thunder will need to adjust without Williams, who has been a key player. Meanwhile, the Spurs must find a way to rally without two significant contributors, testing the resilience of their young roster.
